New method for accessing Mac Home Directory files
The Academic Computing Department will be making changes to the way users log into Mac OSX user accounts in the lab environment. The changes are part of an overall transition to cloud based services for document sharing and web hosting. This will help alleviate network congestion at peak usage hours on campus, and improve the performance of the computing stations.
We encourage users to take advantage of their CCA / Google Drive accounts for mobility and 30GB file storage. Login with your CCA Account at: Google Drive
Effective: June 28, 2013
The Academic Computing lab stations will no longer support individualized authentication for logging into and mounting home directories in the Mac OSX operating system. To log onto the Mac OSX workstations please use the generic local user account.
Access to existing files and data
Existing home directory accounts and files will NOT be deleted or altered.
Files located in the home directories stored on the DADA and POMO servers will still be accessible as a mounted share point on the desktop, or via an FTP client such as Fetch or CyberDuck. Web hosting via the “Sites” folder will continue as a service uninterrupted by the changes.
The Academic Computing team has created the following instructional PDFs outlining the workflows for accessing your files.

Software preference files can be stored externally on a USB drive, or in Google Drive then dragged to the ~/Library/Preferences folder in the generic CCA lab account.
A shortcut folder called “PrefsDrop” will be located on the desktop of every station to make this easy and convenient.
